This story was inspired by Paty's son Marcello Montesinos and his courageous battle with Coats disease, a rare eye condition. Recognizing the challenges faced by little explorers who navigate vision impairment, whether due to lazy eye (amblyopia), genetic traits, or rare diseases like Coats’ disease, the book is a powerful tool of support and empowerment.

El Pirata y su Parche Mágico encourages children to embrace wearing an eye patch, helping them embark on an exciting adventure, fostering their confidence and resilience, and reminding them that they too can be brave pirates, setting sail on a magical journey.
